Holy Week Procession
This year, we will be holding our first ever Holy Week procession through the streets of Ellesmere Port.
Inspired by the large Semana Santa processions that take place in Spain over the Easter period, all of the children in Years 2-6 will be taking to the streets of Ellesmere Port to parade from Whitby Park to Our Lady’s Church via The Port Arcades.
The children have been busily making the floats and banners that they will be carrying on the route and our marching band are being put through their paces at their weekly band practices.
The procession will start at 9.30am on Wednesday 17th April and will culminate with Mass at Our Lady’s Church at 10.30am. Stanney Lane, Wellington Road and Marina Drive will all be closed on those days.
We would love all of our family members to be part of the event too. There are a few ways that you can do this:
- Join our marching band! Are you available to come and learn how to play a drum between 1.00 and 3.00pm on Wednesday 13th, 20th and 27th March and can you play with us on procession day? We’re looking for 4 parents to join our band.
- Help out with creating the floats and banners: speak to your child’s class teacher about the timings of art/DT sessions that are being used for the production of floats and banners.
- Join us on the parade: we’ll be congregating at Whitby Hall, which is in Whitby Park, at 9.30am. We’ll be picking our drums and floats up there. You can follow the procession from there. It would be really helpful if you could walk to Whitby Park from school with us at about 9.00am.
- Come to Mass: Mass will be at 10.30am at Our Lady’s church. Spaces will be limited.

Preparation So Far
On 26th February, we held our introductory assembly. Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 signed up for the important jobs of band members and Nazareños (float carriers).
